Welcoming this new year brings massive changes on both macro (worldly) and micro (personal) levels. The political transition allows us to shake off the proverbial dust of the past four years, which have been overshadowed by pandemic upheavals: the rise of draconian government measures, the pendulum swing of angry dissent, and the clash of ideologies. Hopefully, as we step into this next chapter, we’ve all settled into new skins and recalibrated what truly matters.
For me, I’ve realized that if something doesn’t ultimately lead to Truth, Beauty, or Goodness, it’s probably not worth my time. This perspective shapes even the smallest day-to-day choices. Is this purchase enhancing the beauty or goodness of my family’s life? Is this conversation leading to a truth? Is it serving a higher purpose or fostering something good? If not, I’m letting it go—because time is far too precious.
This year, I’m dedicating more time to Substack and my writing. I plan to expand the scope of my newsletter, exploring topics that pique my curiosity across current events, culture, motherhood, and spirituality. As author Elizabeth Gilbert wisely noted, sometimes following your curiosity can be far more productive—and much more interesting—than chasing a singular, defined passion.
NEW YEAR’S PROMPT
I crafted these questions inspired by a mix of health influencers and Gwyneth Paltrow. Yes, you read that right. Why? Because it’s fun.
IN 2024, I LET GO OF…
Anger: At the state of the world and my relationships. It doesn’t serve me anymore. Beneath the surface, anger often masks a deeper sadness, and I need to be mindful of that in the moment.
Fear: This one’s harder, but I’ll counteract it with intentional practices like positive thinking, prayer, and rituals to alleviate fear in my body—exercise, deep breathing, and grounding techniques.
Expectations: For myself and others. I’ll aim to go with the flow and hope for the best.
IN 2025, I’D LIKE TO…
Honor my writing.
Dedicate time to workouts and spiritual practices.
Spend more one-on-one time with my boys.
Create a beautiful home and cultivate community.
Rekindle friendships, both new and old.
Travel more!
WHAT MADE YOUR HEART SING IN 2024 THAT YOU CAN AMPLIFY IN 2025?
Time spent in nature.
Intentional moments with my boys, especially those sweet bedtime talks and cuddles.
Writing.
Swimming.
WHAT WORD OR PHRASE WILL BE YOUR GUIDING LIGHT IN 2025?
Does it glow?
Outer World Priorities 2025
Family & Relationships: Move closer to family and nurture these relationships through weekly dinners and celebrations. Join book clubs, volunteer at the kids’ new school, and reconnect with old friends.
Wealth & Money: Continue developing products to supplement mainstream income. Explore social media to expand reach.
Career & Work: Stay consistent and intentional with Substack and book projects. Find collaborators for media endeavors after relocating.
Inner World Priorities 2025
Mental Strength: Start each day with stretching or yoga and mindful meditation. Jot down thoughts in a journal over coffee, even if it’s just one line. Step away from heated situations—whether with kids, spouse, family, or friends—and return to them with calm and empathy.
Physical Health: Swim twice a week. Use the rowing machine at home three times a week. Stretch every morning.
Spiritual Wellness: Practice regular confession and deepen prayer beyond meal and bedtime rituals. Create a sacred space at home for connection with God.
